“No more long boring text! Thanks to constant media input, Gen Y has shorter attention spans and their “grasshopper minds” leap quickly from topic to topic. (They also didn’t read this whole article…too long!)”
How true! I will readily admit that I didn’t read the whole article, and I find it funny that I happened to skim that paragraph
Anyway, my thoughts. I agree that Gen Y has a shorter attention span. I have a FireFox add-on called StumbleUpon – I find that when I use this tool, no matter how bored I am, I StumblePast most text-based websites. Give me Flash, games, images, and pretty colors any day of the week. If it’s interactive, I’m game.
I love to watch TV shows on my computer. It’s so much more convenient for me because then I can schedule TV around my life and not the other way around. Have to work on Sunday night when Desperate Housewives is on? That’s okay, because ABC will let me watch it for free after Monday Morning. Missed a couple of seasons of CSI and want to catch up? Netflix will let you stream it to your computer, as long as you have one of their plans.
What I think Gen Y is really doing is making the Web a more convenient tool. Its uses are growing, as are the devices you can access it on. Personally, I’m waiting for the day when babies have a microchip implanted in their brain at birth and can access the Web [and many other fun technological stuff] through special sunglasses or something.
